Wilson in Atlanta

Baseball Crank notes the signing of Craig Wilson by the Braves. So, for less money than they'd pay LaRoche, the Braves put together a left-right platoon at first. Wilson in his career hits lefties much better than righties, while Thorman showed more power last year against righties. That seems like a low cost, high value solution to a problem at first base.

It would be even better if either guy was a good hitter. A bad hitter with a platoon advantage is still a bad hitter with his best face forward. Furthermore, Thorman has simply not demonstrated that he can hit major league pitching, and he would get the majority of the ABs in your estimation. Not thrilled with this, but it's better than Dougie M. I guess.

For the cost, I like the move. They should get a .270 EqA out of those two guys for the season which is only a tick below average.
