Double Power

Derrek Lee picked up his 13th double of the season, tying him with Chase Utley for the NL lead in that category. Throughout his career, Lee balanced his doubles and home runs, favoring doubles by a bit. But this season, he's only hit one home run. He's slugging .565, so there's nothing to complain about, but has he lost a bit of his power? Or is he simply hitting line drives, and the home runs will come eventually?

Derrek Lee's stat line looks like he's turned into a doubles machine, but it's an effect of the way he's being pitched more than any loss of power. Pitchers are pounding the outside corner against Derrek, now that he's soundly proven that he's not going to stop crushing the ball when pitchers try to jam him.

While he has excellent opposite field power, when he's getting hits to right field they're line drives. Derrek is typically very good at not trying to lift the ball unless he can take it to center or left.
