In for a Penny

Brad Penny is taking advantage of the Marlins propensity for striking out as he retired seven of the first nine batters on strikes. He's retired the side in order in each of the first three innings.

Update: Penny gives up an infield hit in the fourth, but strikes out three more batters to bring his total for the game to 10. Penny's best in a game is 13. The Dodgers scored four in the top of the inning to extend their lead to 6-0.

Update: Two Marlins strike out in the fifth to bring Penny's total to 12. At this rate, he has a shot at the record of 20 in a nine inning game. He's yet to walk a batter. However, he's thrown 79 pitches.

Update: No strikeouts in the sixth for Brad. That makes the record much more difficult to achieve.

Update: Penny goes seven and picks up fourteen strikeouts for a new career high. The Dodgers win 6-1 and Penny runs his record to 4-0.
