The Diamondbacks took a last at bat 4-3 win from the Phillies. Chris Young starred offensively and defensively, picking up three hits and making two great catches:

The Diamondbacks kept the score down, they got just enough offense and they made the plays. Two catches by Young stood out the most.

The first came against the first batter of the game, Jimmy Rollins, who hit a looper into shallow center field. Young charged in and snapped it up on a sliding catch.

His play in the sixth looked just as smooth.

Phillies slugger Pat Burrell hit a high drive and Young turned and immediately broke for the center field wall. He turned again a few steps shy of the fence, jumped and made the catch before a soft crash into the padding.

The Phillies came back to tie the game in the 7th, and then again in the 8th, but neither Alfonseca nor Rosario could hold the Diamondbacks scoreless.

The Mets committed two errors in a row in the fifth inning last night. Those miscues led to six unearned runs and gave Benji Molina the opportunity to hit two home runs in one inning. He tied the game with a solo shot leading off the inning, then ended the scoring with a three-run shot off reliever Lino Urdaneta. Of course, if Perez hadn't given up a hit to Zito, the errors wouldn't have happened, either:

Perez promptly retired the next two batters, and it seemed like the inning would end uneventfully with Zito stepping to the plate. He arrived with one hit in 43 previous major-league at-bats (off Washington's Tony Armas on June 7, 2005), and nothing to show for 14 at-bats this season.

So, naturally, Zito lined a clean single into center field.

This came, according to Bochy, after some teammates joked during batting practice that Zito might not get a hit all season. He seldom worked on his swing during six seasons with the A's, but he has been making contact this season, with only four strikeouts in 15 plate appearances.

"Zito was the igniter there," Bochy said, unable to suppress a smirk.

Said Zito of his hit: "It found daylight. ... They're bound to fall if you make good contact."

The Giants take the game 9-4.
