Maybe They Should Just Charge $7 a Glass

The Yankees joined the Oakland Athletics in banning beer from both home and visiting clubhouses. Frankly, I think it's an over-reaction. If someone gets drunk in the clubhouse, the teams have the resources and the power to drive the player home safely. It's what happens outside the clubhouse that usually causes the problems.

$7 a glass? Ha!

$8.00 at The Stadium nowadays, and that's the cheap stuff.

I thought that I had read the Cardinals originally banned alcohol in the clubhouse as a symbolic gesture. I imagine the move by other teams is largely the same. I don't expect that they think it will fix any problem (or that a problem exists).

Wonder what this will mean for the champagne celebrations? How I love to think back to the 2004 ALCS :)

But, a beer or two after the game could put a guy over the limit when he has a couple more afterwards.

It's a no-brainer to me, with the public so sue happy, and considering it's a workplace, I would not dream of allowing any type of alcohol in the clubhouse.

That's a really thoughtless "reasoning" concerning alcohol in the clubhouse. It's far better to ban the drinking anywhere and not give some potential killer a head start . . . Have you thought about sticking to baseball? When is the last time you talked about a great catch? You and all the other sabermetricans and asorted Moneyballers are a plague on the game. Now we have to listen to your nihilism and philosophy? Ychhhh.

No, you don't. Feel free to let yourself out.

I'm confused. Is rick kaplan somehow code for Joe Morgan? Dusty Baker, perhaps?

The last time David talked about a great catch was at least here: http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/020574.php

I didn't scan all of the posts in between, so it might have been sooner.
