Tim's Number One
Tim Wakefield shuts out the Blue Jays for seven innings and the Boston bullpen finishes the job as the Red Sox take another victory 8-0. It was the fourth shutout of the day and the second by that score. Wakefield lowers his ERA to 1.79, placing him in the AL lead. Tim walked a lot of batters this season, but tonight the Blue Jays managed to draw just one free pass.
On the other side, Roy Halladay was roughed up for the second game in a row. He pitched 34 1/3 innings in his four previous starts, including a ten inning complete game. Could it be he was overworked too early in the season? Toronto is in a total tailspin right now. It isn't going to matter if Ryan is on the DL, if they keep getting blown out like this. While they've lost three one-run games, the other six in the losing streak were all by six runs or more. Right now, I'm betting Gibbons is the first manager gone.

That's a good bet. It will probably happen tonight. Things are very, very ugly right now. In the first inning, Wells tripped out of the batter's box (fell on his face) and Troy Glaus was picked off at 1st with the bases loaded. They're unfocused, and likely mailing it in. Some think they're trying to get the manager fired by playing horribly.
It is indeed ugly. The secret TJ surgery on Ryan and now the big Ace losing twice in a row, handily. Is Doc tipping pitches or something? Lowell's HR was especially bad.
I never would've guessed that both the Yankees and Blue Jays would have such horrid starts to the year. Boston's got to be ecstatic. Tampa too... they've already had 1 game leads on two of the AL East powers.
Way to go Sox. Once again they dominate. And how's that for some run support for Wakefield... He could be 7-0 if he had the run support Beckett has...

On the Boston TV broadcast, Jerry Remy said repeatedly that Roy Halladay was not the same pitcher he'd been in the past. Mainly it was a general observation; the only specific point he raised was that Halladay's fastball seems to have lost a few mph. Remy speculated that there was something physically wrong with Halladay.
I also noticed several occasions where Halladay badly missed the catcher's target.
