Closing the Deal

It looks like the Braves sale will go through today:

The sale was agreed to by the corporations in February, and baseball officials have said the transaction values the team at $461 million.

That seems a bit low for a successful franchise with a National TV audience.

I believe the national TV exposure is about to end, as a consequence of MLB's new broadcast deal. So the Braves are losing the last remaining shred of their self-proclaimed status as "America's Team."

In the absence of the TBS tie-in, the Braves are a team with mediocre fan support in a medium-sized market. On top of that, TimeWarner is a motivated seller... so $461 million seems about right to me.

Anyone else notice that Forbes pegged their value at $458MM...awfully close!
