Up with Upton
B.J. Upton went four for five today to raise his road batting average to .384 (28/73), one of the best in the American League. Overall this year he's hitting over .300, his OBA is over .400 and he's slugging over .500. That's a great year for any player, especially for a middle infielder. He helped the Devil Rays to an 11-5 victory over the White Sox today. Coupled with the Yankees loss, they are now just one game behind New York.

Sorry but I don't get the Captain Parmenter reference. I know he was Ken Berry on F-Troop but all I get from that is the implication of Manuel being inept and a bumbling fool. Do you mean that Manuel has succeed dispite being inept?
I'm a Phillies fan and have been trying to get a handle on Manuel's ability. I know my biggest reason for liking him has been that he isn't Larry Bowa. I liked Bowa as a player but loathed him as a manager.
I think the most important characteristic of a manager is that his players want to perform well for him and I think Manual fills that requirement just fine.
Hannibal Dobbs was the bugler on F-Troop.
