Never Sue Anyone Who can Throw a Baseball at Your Head
It looks like Barry Bonds is planning to sue Curt Schilling.
If I were Barry Bonds (scary, I know) I'd tell my lawyers to worry one hell of a lot more about the grand jury and one hell of a lot less about Curt Schilling. The latter can't put you in jail. The former can start you on the path.
Two more words for Barry: Michael Vick.
Those grand jurioes are a...female dog (apologies to dog-lovers for mentioning them in the same post as Vick).
Barry Bonds is wasting his time. His suit will have absolutely no chance whatsoever of success since the standard for libel/slander of a public figure (which Barry most certainly is) is one of 'actual malice.' Given that Bonds' tax, infidelity, and steroid problems are well-publicized, Schilling is going to have a strong argument that truth, or the reasonable presumption of truth, is defense enough.
If Bonds goes through with this, it's for his vanity alone (and his lawyer's pocketbooks) alone. Schilling's got more than enough money to flick this off as a nuisance suit.
