I don't get it - the guys been hurt 4 years in a row - they just reupped Wakefield and Tavarez - and he wants $13 M to win 9 games again - thanks but no thanks

The rotation sans Schilling includes Beckett, Matsuzaka, two kids with probable innings limitations, and Wakefield, who's old and achy himself. And that's not even taking into account the fact that teams who win the Series/make it to the Series seem to have a lot of pitching injuries; Schilling adds depth, and Boston's going to need it. $13MM for one year does absolutely nothing to impact any other spending Boston might consider, so I don't really see anything to dislike about this...

Oh, and the Herald indicates that this is a mostly incentive-laden deal. So who knows what it's actually worth.

Buster Olney says the deal is done. $8MM guaranteed with another $2MM in incentives. Unconfirmed, obviously, but if true that's an absolute bargain.

Schilling has confirmed this on his blog earlier today (deal was done last night). Check out what he has to say here: http://38pitches.com/2007/11/06/done/#more-116
