Lincecum Still May Fly North

The Giants are still thinking about trading Tim Lincecum for Alex Rios:

On the weekend, Giants GM Brian Sabean told a San Francisco radio station that he planned to resolve the Lincecum-Rios affair in the near future.

"By the end of the weekend, maybe the first of the week, we're going to have to flesh this out one way or the other," Sabean said, according the San Jose Mercury-News.

I'd be surprised if this deal happens, but you never know.

If this does happen, Brian Sabean will supplant Jim Duquette as the most incompetent GM ever in my mind.

lincecum must stay. a big challenge for the giants this year- putting butt in the seats. anyone who attended games post 756 knows what i'm talking about. lincecum is an exciting young talent, fun to watch. in this giants lineup, rios would just be another guy getting walked and expanding his strike zone. has anybody ever gone to a game to see the great rios? he's a really good player and a great addition to a talented team. lincecum is and will be a pitcher to remember.

First, as a Jays fan, I would love to see TLinc in a Jays uniform. I've watched him from afar (the wonders of extra innings) and he's exciting and a tremendous talent.

Rios is also amazing. He had power to all fields, makes good contact, has excellent speed and a canon for an arm. However, 5 tool OF's are more common than front of rotation aces, and I think SF could get more than Rios for TLinc.

Also, while I would gladly see TLinc in a Jays uniform, pitching isn't going to be our problem next year, hitting it, so I don't see how trading Rios for an arm helps us that much. I like the rotation of Halladay, Burnett, McGowan, Marcum and Scrub-de-jour. McGowan is also better than people think, I don't put him too far behind Lincecum.

But Burnett is almost certainly gone after this year. Why not have a guy who's about as sure as pitching prospects go, ready to step in when he leaves? Of course, I'd love to see them trade Burnett now for a bat, but that's not going to happen...
