Limiting Joba

Bronx Banter notes the Yankees are considering starting the season with Joba Chamberlain as a reliever to limit his innings. Injuries happen, so Joba would likely be thrust into the rotation sooner than later.

And with his one effective pitch just exactly how long do you think he will be successful as a starter?

I can't see how STARTING him in the bullpen is the best decision. Obviously they don't want an intensive increase in his innings pitched, however, one has to think the longer he is in the bullpen and the more he establishes himself as a vital part of the pen, it will be more and more difficult to move him to the rotation. Remember how long it took the Royals to take the leash off Grienke this year?

Pick one - I still think he'll be better as a reliever and they should have let Rivera walk
