Shining Rays
I keep my eyes on John Sickels prospect lists, but I usually don't comment because I don't concentrate much on the minor leagues. John is the great resource there. However, the Rays list caught my attention. John list three A prospects. As the list go by, I see very few As. If you can down the Minor League Ball front page right now, the other organizations on the page have no one higher than A-. All those years of losing are finally paying off for Tampa Bay. I'm guessing they're going to challenge for a playoff spot sooner than we might think.
Update: More here.
I agree Dave,
Another thing of note, I wonder if Sickels is higher on many of these prospects then others. Or, if the Rays are understanding of certain logistics of baseball. That is, you field a team of only 25 players, you only have room for so many players. Why not make a play for a sure thing like Bedard? Don't go off and sell a player like Price, but whats the harm in giving up a McGee, Baldelli and some? How about a rotation of Bedard, Kazmir, Shields and Garzao for 08 and 09.
you have the right idea, but they are better off targeting one of the Giants pitchers.
The O's will never trade Bedard in-division, and risk having to face him 5-6 times a season.
