The Clemens Report

My latest SportingNews.com column finds the report by Clemens's agent misleading. I think they had a chance to make a good case for Roger here, but by cherry picking data, they end up giving the opposite impression.

Dugout Central agrees with me that the report didn't prove its case. Sabernomics, however, takes the data and does a better job than the agents of showing positive evidence toward Clemens being clean..

dave, i liked your article, but his 1997 stands out as by far his best year. I know that the mitchell report states he started in 1998, but do you think it's possible he dabbled with PED'S in 1997?

Comparing him to Schilling is, to my mind, not applicable. Schilling is showing all of the normal signs of an aging power pitcher. His velocity is dropping, he's less consistent, hurt more often, etc. Whereas the Rocket has not shown any noticable drop in velocity, and his breakdowns are more symptomatic of an abuser. Not to mention his mood swings and tirades. Besides which, has any pitcher in history with his regular season numbers been a bigger bust in the post-season?

It's possible, but McNamee's story doesn't sound like it.

It's ridiculous to cite the Sabernomics article as indicating anything. That post says that because Roger's stats didn't improve around the time McNamee says he juiced McNamee is lying. Do I have to draw a picture? Did anybody go to school, or were all humans just born knowing how to type?
