The Brewers defeat the Phillies 5-4, but Chase Utley is the first player to reach ten home runs. My SportingNews.com column today addresses the rarity of a second baseman leading the majors in home runs.

as a cardinals fan, it's been a rough night... first I have to watch La Russa not put Brendan ryan (the best offensive AND defensive SS on the team) into the baseball game, and in the bottom of the 8th, Aaron miles at shortstop fails to cover second on a comebacker to the pitcher that should have been an easy GIDP, which eventually allowed the winning run to score.

Then I find myself an hour later watching a completely exhausted cole hamels pitch into the 8th, which made me scream at my television. Did anyone besides manuel NOT know the phillies were going to lose that game, when hamels took the field in a tie game sitting on 100+ pitches to face braun, fielder and hart?

And then I got to watch Kip Wells give up a run in the tenth to the cubs, after a glorious comeback to tie the game in the 9th.

Three good games, and all ended with the Bad Guys winning. Sigh. Could be a fun year though, witha potential 3-way race int he central...

The Phils may have lost on Wednesday, but they knotted up their mini-series with the Brewer's 1-1 as Pat "The Bat" came through again. The Phillies back over .500 mark. Not to count too early, but I'm looking for 15-11 by Sunday!
