Odd but somewhat related note: cricket, baseball's ancient and distant cousin, is angling to get into the Olympics with Twenty20, the baseball-sized version of the game. Cricket might have a slightly better case - the sport is more geographically diverse than baseball and is the rabid passion of the second most populous country in the world.
