Black and White and Green all Over?

Can the Boston Red Sox provide a cash infustion to the New York Times?

The stake in the Red Sox always struck me as an odd holding for the NYT. Shouldn't they be sticking to their knitting - you know, that newspaper thing - instead of investing in a baseball team?

That said, the Red Sox holding may be one of the most valuable properties the NYT has left. I'd be loathe to part with it except for an overwhelming offer.

Down the road (and maybe not so far down the road) I expect the NYT to be absorbed by a larger media conglomerate.

Their knitting is in a death spiral, sticking to it = embracing ch 11 for the newsroom, and getting jobs for the deadbeat Sulzberger clan. Besides the Sox their ownership in about.com has paid off, the rest of the org has been an epic failure.
