Walking Shoes
Peter Abraham notes some encouraging numbers from Robinson Cano:
Robinson Cano has driven in 15 runs in 17 games in the Dominican and has nine extra-base hits. He actually has more walks (seven) than strikeouts (five). Considering he walked 26 times in 634 plate appearances all last season, that's a good sign.
Indeed, if he can do that against major league pitching.

Your last sentence is the sticking point. Every year some players do great in the winter leagues. Question is whether the improvement can be translated to the majors. I suppose the answer lies in what drove the improvement. If it is because of weaker pitching then it isn't valid. However, if the player corrected a deficiency (hitch in swing, approach at plate, or whatever) then maybe it will last. Color me a skeptic.
