Brewers Power and Speed

The Brewers showed off two of the strengths of their offense today as they hit three home runs and stole a base to score 12 runs for the second day in a row against the Phillies. The three home runs gives the team 81 on the season. They came into the day tied with the Dodgers for the most HR in the National League. The also stole their 42nd base of the season. That’s second in the NL behind the Nationals. They’ve only been caught 11 times for an excellent SB percentage as well.

Bill James invented Power-Speed Number to measure a hitter’s ability run up totals in both categories. It works for teams as well, and a number of the best teams in the majors are doing both well. The Red Sox, Nationals, Mariners, Brewers, Indians, and Braves all are at the top of the leader board.
