Odd Lead-off Man

Max Kepler just hit his third home run of the game to extend the Twins lead over the Indians to 5-1. All came off Indians starter Trevor Bauer.

Kepler now owns 15 home runs on the season, with a .263/.335/.540 slash line after that homer. He is an odd choice for a lead-off hitter, as his OBP is just okay. His power would normally do better lower in the order, but the Twins have outstanding OBPs in the seventh and eighth slots, which gives Kapler plenty of RBI opportunities, and he’s been good at converting them. It’s an unusual batting order in many ways, but it’s working well for the Twins. I’d define it as get the power up as often as possible, and put some table setters at the bottom of they have runners to move later in the game.
