The 1926 season is now part of the Day by Day Database. That was the year George Burns (not that George Burns) won an MVP award by leading the AL in hits with 217, 64 of them doubles. A first baseman, it’s tough to see why he won the award instead of Babe Ruth, who posted a .372/.510/.737 slash line.
At one point, any player who had already won an MVP, was not eligible for another. If I recall, Ruth fell under this rule.
Thanks, Luis, I did not know that!
