Jeter Forgoes Salary

Derek Jeter won’t give himself a paycheck during the shutdown:

Jeter, who has a reported salary of $5 million annually, told members of baseball ops on the call that they will be paid through at least May 31, the source said.

According to reports, other members of the Marlins’ executive team agreed to take pay cuts.

Baseball owners and upper management get accused of greed quite often, but one advantage of being frugal in times of plenty is that one has the resources to be generous in times of need.

Of course, Jeter owns part of the team, so if this pay cut helps the team survive, it will help him in the long run.
