Korea Update

South Korea is slated to start their baseball season on May 5th.

On Sunday, South Korea reported eight cases of the virus — the first time a daily increase had dropped to single digits in about two months.

South Korea’s peak of new cases came on March 3rd. Those new cases fell off rapidly after that. The US peak of new cases came on April 4th, and while daily new cases are falling, they are doing so slowly. If and when daily new cases crash, MLB could get back into business about six weeks after that, going by the South Korean model.

Unfortunately, the larger population and land mass of the US makes this more difficult. There are areas where the infection is waning, and areas where the infection is far from under control. It could be that there will be cycles. MLB could start in Arizona, as they seem be doing well against the virus, only to see cases spike there again. It’s not going to be an easy decision.
