A-Rod and fiancee Jennifer Lopez have retained J.P. Morgan to represent them in raising capital for a possible bid for the New York Mets, according to multiple reports.

Talk about ownership on steroids! A purchase like this would certainly make A Rodriguez The Rodriguez. J-Lo could sing the National Anthem before every game.

Writers can have a field day writing about the competition between Rodriguez and Derek Jeter, both of whom would own teams in the NL East. Jeter’s Marlins would likely come up short of the title, while Rodriguez’s Mets would finish third. 🙂

On a serious note, I wonder if former players keep moving into ownership positions, would it change the dynamic between MLB and the union? Former players, one would imagine, would be much more sympathetic to the union side of negotiations.
