Hendryx, in limited duty, easily owns the best batting average on the Red Sox at .346. Wally Shang, however, with a .314/.421/.470 slash line is the best offensive player on the team.

Lefty Tyler of the Cubs posts the best pitched game of the day in a 4-0 win over the Braves. Tyler goes the distance, giving up just three hits while walking one and striking out three. Tyler pitched for the Braves for many years, and is 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA against his former team this season.

The race for .400 and the AL batting title goes poorly on this date. George Sisler of the Browns goes 0 for 4 to lower his BA to .401. Tris Speaker of the Indians posts an 0 for 2 day to sink to .395.

The White Sox and the Yankees have the day off, so each gaines 1/2 game on Cleveland. The AL Champion White Sox now lead Cleveland by 2 1/2 games, while the Yankees are three back in third place. The news of the day announces the “Croocial” series starting tomorrow between the White Sox and Yankees at the Polo Grounds.

In the NL pennant race, the Reds beat the Phillies 5-1, the Dodgers beat the Pirates 4-3, and the Giants down the Cardinals 6-3. Cincinnati remains one game ahead of Brooklyn and three games ahead of New York.
