Best Batter Today

Juan Soto of the Nationals keeps on keeping on as he once again holds the top slot in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Soto posts a two for four day in an 8-6 loss to Miami. Meanwhile, Bryce Harper of the Phillies goes two for three with a double and a walk in a 6-5 win over the Cubs. That narrows the gap between the two former teammates to seven points.

Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals posted a three for five night with a double and a home run as St. Louis pounds the Mets 11-4 to help solidify the Cardinals playoff position. Goldschmidt sits in third place. Kyle Tucker of the Astros moves ahead of Mookie Betts of the Dodgers as Tucker goes three for four with a double and a home run in a 7-2 win over Texas. Tucker’s game score of 73 was the third highest on the day. Betts posted a two for five night with a double in a 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks as the Dodgers gain a game in on the Giants in the NL West race.

The best game score of the day goes to Andrew Benintendi of the Royals, five for five against the Athletics, all singles. That was good for a 79 as Oakland takes the game 12-10, the A’s bullpen once again running into trouble. Benintendi turned in a very strong nine games, and I believe this is his second appearance as top game score of the day.
