Best Batter Today

Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals moves back into the top five of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings as he goes two for three with a walk on a slow night for offense in the majors. He ranks fifth after a 5-2 Mets, win, the Mets scoring all five runs in the ninth inning.

Ty France of the Mariners remains on top, Juan Soto of the Nationals second, and Matt Olson of the Braves third as all were idle on Monday. Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers posted a two for five day with a double to hold fourth place. He is about a quarter point behind Olson.

The best game score of the night goes to Taylor Ward of the Angels. Ward hit two home runs from the lead-off slot, driving in all three of the Angels runs as they beat the Guardians 3-0. That was good for a game score of 72, the only score above 70 on the night. Ward hit poorly as a part-time player throughout his career, but showed some improvement in 2021. He currently owns a .367/.525/.700 line in a low number of plate appearances.
