Best Batter Today

The top five of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings remains the same. Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals now leads by twenty three points after going three for four with a home run Saturday. The Cardinals beat the Brewers 8-3 to cut Milwaukee’s lead in the NL Central to 2 1/2 games.

Mookie Betts of the Dodgers continued to show impressive power as he homers and singles in four trips to hold second place. The Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks 3-2. Bryce Harper of the Phillies stays in third place with a two for four night, the Mets winning that game 8-2. Ty France of the Mariners posts a two for five night to stay in fourth place as the Mariners down the Astros 6-0. Manny Machado of the Padres got the night off as the Pirates take the game 4-2. That leaves Machado in fifth place.

The best game score of the day goes to rookie Nolan Gorman of the Cardinals. The second baseman goes four for four with a double and a home run for a score of 83. He owns four extra-base hits (three doubles) in eight games, but also made two errors on Saturday. Power appears to be his game, as he slugged .502 in 1456 minor league plate appearances, and .530 in 475 AAA PA. He’s currently slugging .600 in the majors.
