Best Batter Today

There is no change to the top five in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings as the eight games played did not involve the top four players. Aaron Judge of the Yankees, Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado of the Cardinals, and Alex Bregman of the Astros all had the day off. Goldschmidt’s probability of a triple crown now stands at 0.0152.

Mookie Betts of the Dodgers did play, going one for four in a 5-3 loss to the Mets to hold fifth place.

The best game score of the day goes to Joey Meneses whose last name is pronounced more like a Civil War battle than a 1960s sitcom. He goes four for six with a home run for a game score of 76 in a 7-5, ten inning victory over the Athletics. His three-run homer in the bottom of the tenth won the game.

Although a rookie, Meneses is not a prospect as he is past his prime at seasonal age 30. He hit .281/.338/.431 in his minor league career, and about the same in foreign leagues. It just goes to show that anything can happen in 100 AB.
