Best Batter Today

The injured Aaron Judge of the Yankees moves back into fifth place in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Judge’s score decays slowly as he spends time on the illjured list, but a poor game by one of the other top hitters can bring a score down quickly.

Shohei Ohtani of the Angels started July with a dud as he went 0 for 4 in a 3-1 Diamondbacks win. He now leads Ronald Acuna Jr.of the Braves by three points after Acuna homers in a 7-0 win over the Marlins.

Jose Ramirez of the Guardians uses a two for four in a 6-0 win over the Cubs to hang in third place. Juan Soto of the Padres collects a home run and a sacrifice fly in a 12-5 rout of the Reds for fourth place. The Reds and Brewers are now tied for first place in the NL Central.

Alec Bohm of the Phillies posted the best game score of the day, an 88. He went four for five with two home runs as the Phillies offense hit on all cylinders in a 19-4 win over the Nationals. Baum is hitting close to his career averages this season, but with nine home runs his slugging percentage is up a bit. The only other season he showed much power was his rookie year of 2020 in a short season.
