They’ve Only Just Begun

The 2023 season turned out to be a bit of a disappointment for the Tigers. The silver lining, however came from the development of two players. Kerry Carpenter hit his eighteenth home run of the season in a 4-1 win over the Guardians. He is now slashing .281/.342/.526. Carpenter showed good power and the ability to get on base in the minors, and now he’s doing that in his second season in the majors. He’s playing a seasonal age 25, so the Tigers have a few more years to bring in talent around him.

Riley Greene singled today, and he’s slashing .303/.362/.476. Like Carpenter, Greene also made a leap in his sophomore season, improving his ability to get on base and hit for power more like he did in the minors. Greene, at seasonal age 22, still has plenty of time to develop further.

Both these hitters have the potential to be solid contributors to the team for the rest of the decade. We’ll see who else the Tigers can bring along to complement their skills.
