Letting Jeffers Hit

Ryan Jeffers of the Twins leads the AL in slugging percentage at .609. In his first few seasons in the majors, Jeffers shared catching duties, but was seldom the main starter. Last season, his age 26 year, he greatly increased his OBP and BA, and that raised his slugging percentage to a respectable .491. This season, the Twins decided to keep Jeffers bat in the lineup by having him DH when he’s not catching, and playing nearly everyday improved everything, especially is power. He is among the AL leaders in doubles and extra-base hits, and owns eight home runs as well. It’s good Minnesota finally let this fine hitter play to his potential.
