Games of the Day

The Mariners and Orioles play the rubber game of their weekend series with George Kirby facing Corbin Burnes. Kirby keeps batters off base this season, with the opposition posting a .278 OBP against him. He walked just five batters in 50 1/3 innings. Burnes owns a .272 opposition OBP for his career, the eight best mark since his career started in 2018. Note that his old teammate, Brandon Woodruff, ranks seventh.

Trevor Williams leads the Nationals against the Phillies and Aaron Nola. Williams brings a 1.94 ERA into the game, well below his career average of 4.36. He cut his home runs allowed per 9 IP from a career average of 1.33 to 0.22. That’s eliminating a home run per game! The Phillies and the ballpark should provide a challenge to that low number. Most of Nola’s numbers are in line with his career, but his BABIP is way down to .265. The Phillies have worked on their defense the last couple of seasons, so this might greatly helping Nola’s ERA.

Mitch Keller takes on Jameson Taillon as the Pirates battle the Cubs. Keller continued his 2023 improvement of walking fewer batters. Taillon limited hits this season despite a low K rate. Of those 23 hits in 28 innings, four of them left the park.
