Best Batter Today

Aaron Judge and Juan Soto of the Yankees remain one and two respectively in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Judge reached base twice with a single and a walk in the 8-4 Red Sox win, while Soto closed the gap between the two to 15 points with a home run and two walks. The Guardians now boast two players in the top five as Steven Kwan moves into third place and Jose Ramirez ranks fifth. Kwan went three for four in the 5-0 Blue Jays win to raise his batting average to .386. Ramirez had the day off.

Gunnar Henderson of the Orioles sits in fourth place, two for five in a 6-2 win over the Phillies. Henderson also drove in a run, tying him for tenth in the majors in RBI despite serving as a lead-off hitter. (All his RBI came from the #1 slot this season.) This is even more impressive given the poor OBPs at the bottom of the Orioles batting order. If the Orioles had adopted the strategy of putting a good OBP ninth, Henderson might be in the top five.

Riley Greene of the Tigers posted the best game score of the day, a 91. Greene went four for five with two home runs and a walk, driving in six runs in a 13-5 win over the Astros. He is the ninth player to crack a 90 game score this season and 91 is the fourth highest of the year. Greene, at seasonal age 23, upped his power game in a year when home runs are down overall. He already collected fourteen home runs on the season in 69 games, after hitting 16 homers in his first 192 games.
