Eflin for the Birds

The Orioles made a second trade, acquiring pitcher Zach Eflin from the Rays, as the Rays continue their sell-off:

In return, the Rays received outfielder Matthew Etzel, superutilityman Mac Horvath and right-hander Jackson Baumeister.

Eflin is quite the “ball in play” pitcher this season as both his K rate and his BB rate are low. Baltimore fields a good defense, Eflin should work on that squad. The Rays defense was not it’s usual stellar self, so expect Eflin to have a better ERA with Baltimore.

Etzel is seasonal age 22 and OBP machine. Horvath only has 416 MiLB plate appearances, but so far is a well rounded hitter. Baumeister has 70 2/3 innings at A ball with 11.6 K per 9. It’s a nice talent grab for Tampa Bay.
