Best Batter Today

Aaron Judge and Juan Soto of the Yankees remain in slots one and four in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Judge went one for two with two walks and a home run in the 10-1 win over the Orioles that gave the Yankees the AL East title. He and teammate Giancarlo Stanton both produced game score of 67. Adding a locked in Stanton to the duo of Judge and Soto makes the Yankees even more dangerous in the post season. Soto went one for four in the game. Judge, with home runs in five straight games has exactly three games left to tie the record of home runs in eight straight games.

Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers stayed in second place as he helped the Dodgers to a 7-2 win over the Padres to clinch the NL West title, finishing off the six division winners. Ohtani went 3 for 5 with a double. He leads the majors with 97 extra-base hits and 400 total bases. He is in the top five in the NL in doubles, triples, and home runs.

Third place Vladimir Guerrero Jr.of the Blue Jays and fifth place Yordan Alvarez of the Astros had the day off.

The best game score of the day belonged to Carlos Correa of the Twins, a 72. He went three for five with a home run and two walks, but the Marlins took the game 8-6 in 13 innings. Miami scored three runs in the top of the 13th for the win that drops Minnesota three games back in the AL Wild Card race. The Twins hold the tie breakers against both the Royals and the Tigers, but they need to sweep this weekend and hope that either the Royals or the Tigers get swept. The Tigers are playing the White Sox, but the Royals are playing the Braves, also needing wins to stay in the NL Wild Card race. The Twins take on the Orioles.
