Sammy Gervacio pitches in relief for the Houston Astros. Gervacio turned in an outstanding rookie season for Houston, striking out 25 in 21 innings of work while allowing just one home run. His MLB numbers were right in line with his minor league numbers, where he struck out over a batter per inning at every level. He has a somewhat side-arm delivery, and added a bit of theatrics to it this spring:
The righthander holds the ball out with his pitching hand, stares at it for a pronounced second, then translates his stare in an equally exaggerated manner toward the plate.
I did not see him pitch last season, but I can’t wait to see him now.
