Players A to Z, Carlos Gonzalez

Carlos Gonzalez plays outfield for the Colorado Rockies. Gonzalez took a big step forward in 2009, posting a .353 OBP and a .525 slugging percentage for the Rockies after a disappointing .273/.361 season for the Athletics in 2008. His hitting was greatly helped by Coors field, but his road averages were also greatly improved over 2008.

I’m not sure Carlos can sustain that OBP and power. His minor league slash line stands at .290/.348/.484. He started in the minors at a very young age, so he’s tended to be young for his level. He’ll get a full season to perform in the majors in 2010, so we should get a better view of his abilities.

Gonzalez also brings excellent base stealing skills and a very good glove to the game. If he turns out to be a .340 OBP – .450 slugger, he’ll be a very valuable player to the Rockies.
