For the Birds

The Orioles beat the Red Sox 9-1 to earn at least a split in the season series. Boston is 8-9 against the Orioles this season. If that record was 13-4 in favor of Boston (the Orioles were a poor team for most of the year), Boston would be right in the thick of the AL East and Wild Card races. Instead, they’ll be watching the playoffs on TV.

Clay Buchholz and Brad Bergesen search allowed one run over six innings, Clay’s of the unearned variety. The Red Sox bullpen completely imploded, allowing eight runs, including four by Jonathan Papelbon in a mop-up roll. The Orioles get another quality start as they continue to shine under Buck Showalter.
