Indians Sweep

The Indians win a non pitching duel, taking down the Red Sox 1-0. The game ended on a strange play. Darnell McDonald was on first with two out after David Ortiz walked. J.D. Drew grounded a shot up the middle that hit off the pitcher’s foot and bounded over to the third baseman. The shortstop went to cover third, and McDonald overran second and slipped. The second baseman Orland Cabrera was slow getting back to the bad, so Adam Everett had to hold the ball and throw at the last second. Cabrera made the tag and the ump call McDonald out, but I thought he got his hand into the bag. McDonald didn’t argue much however, and the ump indicated the tag got him on the shoulder.

Jon Lester out-pitched Fausto Carmona, both going seven innings but Jon striking out nine to Fausto’s four. Jon did give up one more hit and one more walk, but neither allowed a run. Josh Bard allowed a walk, and then a steal and two sacrifices brought the run home.

Despite an 0-6 record, the Red Sox either pitched well enough or hit well enough in five of the game to win. They just havent’ been able to do both at the same time. The Indians are now tied with Kansas City for first place in the AL Central, as both the AL East and Central are upside down when compared to 2010.

This was the first QS by a Red Sox pitcher, and against a poor hitting team that does not match up well against LHP’er.

Losing streak should be over soon now that they go home, but it’s the worst start since 1945. Phil Hughes and his 88 mph fast ball might be what the doctor ordered for their bats.

They also have a series against the 0-6 Rays coming up (8 runs scored in 6 games)
