Little Things

In a February post about the players the Orioles acquired during the off season, I noted that all of the players did something well. Most of those acquired have not played for the major league team, but of those who did, all showed their strengths. Wilson Betemit hit for power. Endy Chavez played above average defense. Wei-Yin Chen, Jason Hammel and Darren O’Day all contributed low walk rates. These are little things, but yesterday O’Day held the fort flawlessly and Betemit beat back the invaders, and Chavez scored after coming in the game as a pinch runner. Adam Jones and Matt Wieters hitting has a lot more to do with the team’s overall success, but recognizing the talent of marginal players allowed Dan Duquette to fill in the rest of the roster quite nicely.
