Shields Goes to 11

James Shields dominated the Yankees for 7 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out 11 as the Rays win 3-0 to take two out of three from New York. That leaves Tampa Bay one game out of first place in the AL East. Chad Qualls did his job in his Rays debut, facing one batter and getting Lance Berkman to ground into a double play.

For Shields, this was his second good start in a row. He’s walked two and struck out 18 in his last 14 innings.

Girardi picked an interesting time to start resting guys (Gardner, A-Rod, Teixeira at DH).
Tito does that against the Yankees, drives me crazy.

Give a manager too many toys and he feels the need to play with them. Maddon says thank you Joe (especially with Pena and Zobrist out).
