Adam LaRoche agreed to a two-year deal with the Nationals. He sought a three-year deal from the Orioles, but when Baltimore went short term with Derrek Lee, LaRoche’s leverage dried up. No word on the money yet.
Update: Here’s the money:
LaRoche will make $15 million in the first two years of his contract, $7 million this season and $8 million the next. He and the Nationals have a mutual option for 2013. If LaRoche stays with the Nationals for a third season, he’ll make $10 million in 2013. The Nationals, though, could buy him out for $1 million instead. In effect, LaRoche will make $16 million over two years or $25 over three.
This strikes me as a good deal for the Nationals. LaRoche has generated more than $7 million worth of value every season since 2006.
