Praise for the Jays

Jack Moore praises the Blue Jays front office for collecting so many draft picks this winter, five in all:

According to Victor Wang’s research cited in my previous piece, those five picks will bring in a total of $11 million in value. Considering that the 2011 draft is widely considered to be one of the deepest draft in recent memory and that salaries have seen a good deal of inflation recently, there is good reason to believe that the value realized by the Jays will be even greater.

Teams that are not blessed with high revenue streams need to keep their farm systems strong to take advantage of the six years of low-price player control. The more good players that go into the system, the great the odds of stars coming out at the major league end. Nice job by the Blue Jays of increasing the inputs.
