Terry Collins will have fewer players in camp this spring:
Interesting, that there will be less people in camp. That’s good, since, like he suggests, it probably means more small groups doing more focused drills. In the end, I’ve been told by players that what matters most in Spring Training is – like Collins said – repetition, developing good habits, and building relationships with teammates and the coaching staff.
So the Mets are going to concentrate on making their major league team the best possible, rather than giving their minor leaguers a taste of the big show.
Thank you, David, for knowing the difference between “fewer” and “less.”
Is that a decision based on a lack of upcoming talent to the minors or is it really a choice to focus on skill-building for the majors? Either way, it makes sense that it would work out to their advantage. More personal attention, more camaraderie, more work able to be done in each practice. Sounds good to me!
