Wild Game

I believe the Orioles game against the Red Sox was one of the strangest contests I’ve seen. Boston wins 6-5 on a line drive caught in shallow left, that initially held Dustin Pedroia at third, but the throw home was so bad, Dustin was able to reverse his reverse to third and score anyway.

He was on base after just missing a home run. A fan reached over, and the umps called it a double, but the replay was inconclusive. The double stood, but I thought the ball might have been above the line of demarcation.

Earlier, there was a reversal on a transfer play at second base. Later, John Farrell made a pitching change before the pinch hitter was announced, and Farrell lost the platoon advantage.

Finally, there was this hit by pitch of Mike Napoli that loaded the bases for the game winning play.

Napoli stayed in. A wild game.

The new transfer rule has to go. The guy clearly had the ball in the pocket of the glove with his foot on the base. That’s been an out for over a hundred years. It turned a RS loss (with everything else going as it had) into a win.
