I wonder if the Yankees will try to limit his repertoire, eliminating or greatly reducing the use of pitches that put the most stress on the elbow.
Tanaka threw almost 30% splits this year, up from 15% last year. The slider also stresses the elbow. Both pitches are his most effective pitches as hitters hit his FB pretty well.
If he limits his repertoire his effectiveness may suffer. Might get away with it his first few starts though.
