Cobb On the Corn

Alex Cobb owns a no-hitter through five innings against the Yankees. He would have been perfect except for a dropped fly ball by Kevin Kiermaier. It was a no doubt error, as he was under the ball and it hit his glove. Cobb struck out three so far.

The Rays lead 3-0, the first time this year Michael Pineda allowed three runs in a game.

Update: Cobb retires the Yankees 1-2-3 in the sixth.

Update: Yunel Escobar hits his second home run of the game in the seventh, and he has driven in all four runs. Both HR are off Pineda, who allowed three HR coming into the game. Given that Escobar came into this game slugging a low .314, this might go down as one of the least likely two homer games in a very long time.

Update: Cobb walks two in the seventh inning but does not allow a hit. The Rays still lead 4-0 at the end of the seven. Alex has thrown 94 pitches so far.

Update: Chris Young doubles with one out in the eighth to break up the no-hitter. It was clear last inning that Cobb was tiring. Great outing by Cobb, who lowers his batting average allowed to .225.

Update: Martin Prado pinch hits and homers to cut the Tampa Bay lead to 4-2.

Update: Jeter gets drilled on the forearm, then McCann reaches on an error by James Loney. The Yankees have the tying runs on base with two out.

Update: Mark Teixeira strikes out to end the inning. They Rays lead 4-2.
