The Angels continue to be hit by severe injuries:
Los Angeles Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons will require surgery for what the team described Monday as a full thickness tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb.
The Angels said they would have an update on Simmons following the surgery. He will be placed on the disabled list.
Simmons, 26, was hurt when he landed awkwardly on his glove hand while diving to stop a grounder hit by Evan Longoria in the third inning of Sunday’s 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. He immediately left the game.
The Angels lose a key piece of their defense after losing they best starter, Garrett Richards. Thumb injuries are very tough for hitters, as even after they heal, there is a lag in returning to normal at the plate. This injury sounds like it might take months to heal.
His 52 OPS+ won’t be missed much I don’t think. Of course, not sure Brendan Ryan will improve on that. They should have got Drew, at least he could hit a HR once in awhile.
Poor Trout, might as well go fishing for the next 5 Octobers, because he won’t sniff the post season in an Angels uniform. Halos should try horns instead
