Never Ending Gomber Stomper

For the second day in a row, a Cardinals pitcher is throwing a no-hitter in his first MLB start. Austin Gomber walked two and struck out six through six innings. Gomber has made 15 relief appearances for the Cardinals this season, allowing 11 hits in 14 1/3 innings. Once again, it’s a close game as St. Louis leads Cincinnati 1-0 in the top of the seventh inning.

Update: With two out and a man on second in the top of the seventh inning, number eight hitter Yairo Munoz comes to the plate. Gomber is scheduled to be on deck, but Mike Shildt sends a pinch-hitter to the on-deck circle. Instead of walking Munoz and forching Gomber out of the game, the Reds pitch to Munoz who singles in a run. Gomber then comes out to hit and singles. He now has more hits than the Reds in the game and is coming out for the seventh. He’s thrown just 79 pitches.

Update: There is some kind of alarm going off at Great American Ballpark. Lights are flashing and a horn is sounding, and they are delaying the game.

Update: The game resumes after 7 1/2 minutes. Tommy Pham runs down a ball in left-center for the first out.

Update: Joey Votto lines a base hit into right to end the no-hit bid with one out in the seventh.

Update: Eugenio Suarez follows with a home run to tie the game.
